On 22 April 2026, as part of the module ‘Disaster Medicine and Humanitarian Aid in the 21st Century and the EU’, first-year medical students at the Cyprus Branch of the University of Athens undertook the first phase of pre-hospital emergency management training, delivered in collaboration with the Ambulance Directorate of the State Health Services Organisation.
According to Professor Emmanouil Pikoulis, ‘Pre-hospital emergency care is one of the most critical factors in shaping the outcomes of medical incidents, and our students must begin developing these competencies and skills from the very early stages of their medical education. Special thanks go to Ms Riana Constantinou, Head of the Ambulance Directorate at the State Health Services Organisation, and her team, who responded promptly and with great enthusiasm to our invitation, and provided a comprehensive hands-on training programme, in which our students participated actively and with keen interest’.
